Having Limits in Poker

Having Limits in Poker
If you've seen poker played on TV, you probably thought to yourself that you could do that. Well, these days, you can, to a degree. The Internet has made it so that almost anyone can play poker online, if they can't get to the casinos. You just have to be careful to observe the gambling laws in your local area.
If you can play and decided to, one of the important things to learn is having limits. How much are you willing to spend, or gain, before you quit? It's called bankroll management and it can make or break you at the poker tables.
A lot of people, for example, keep playing and playing until they win a pot and then quit to protect their earnings. The trouble there is that they lose more than they wind up winning.
At the other end of the spectrum, you have the people who get on a winning streak and refuse to quit while they're far ahead of the game. They wind up losing a huge pot and getting back to square one. You don't want to be in either group. So, it's important to know when your winnings are truly worth protecting and when you should keep playing.
Of course, it's easy to lose track of your bankroll when you play online because you can transfer more funds into your account with a few button clicks. So, while playing online can be fun, you have to set limits and stick to them.
